Santorini

Santorini, a unique destination worldwide

Born though one of the largest volcanic eruptions in the history of the world, Santorini is a place of unreal beauty, not even remotely resembled by any other place in the world. Santorini is located in the southernmost part of the Cyclades island group and north of the island of Crete. Santorini is a semi circular shaped island, part of the caldera created by the Minoan Eruption which occurred about 3600 years ago. The unique terrain of the island is what makes it so special: 250 meter tall jaw-dropping cliffs surround Nea Kameni, the crater of the famous Santorini volcano. Located right on top and at the very edge of these cliffs are the majestic towns of Santorini, hanging glorious and looking as if they are about to jump. The architecture of the island defines the Cycladic architecture; with small streets and closely packed white houses with their characteristic blue features.

The life in Santorini does not fall short of its natural beauty: Being one of the most popular and cosmopolitan destinations in the world, it has developed an incredible variety of restaurants, clubs and bars. These combined with the incredible volcano view that the towns of Fira (the capital), Imerovigli and Oia have to offer it is obvious that the resulting experience will be more than memorable. However Santorini has also many attractions to offer to visitors: A trip to Nea Kameni by boat allows tourists to see the volcano from up close, while a trip to Palia Kameni will let them take a dive in the hot springs of the old volcano. Additionally the archeological site of Akrotiri gives a pic of the advance Minoan civilization which could have been the root of the legend of Atlantis.
Finally it is important to highlight that Santorini has some of the most interesting and diverse beaches in the world: the black beaches (Perissia and Kamari) whit black sand and pebbles relatively, the red beach with stunning red sand, as well as the white beach which is accessible only by the sea.
